We love to camp and have been kicking around the idea of a small camper for at least a year. We’ve searched online for information and seen lots of photos and were leaning toward a popup camper. Recently we met some people with a teardrop – looked fun, modern and cool but very small. They offered to let us look around – WOW it has a small refrigerator, sink, bed and shower/toilet! How is it possible? We could even stand up in it. Well after lots of talking we’ve decided this is the direction we will take. So today we start our hunt for a perfect teardrop.

Lots to consider! So off we go to Beckley’s Camping Center.
Available models: B@sic & M@x
This is small yet ultra light weight at around 580 pounds. So easily towable by most cars but dang it’s small. We looked at the MyPod M@x. It has room to sleep two and store some stuff. Has an entertainment center, AC and window shades. Cool setup but a little smaller than we were considering.
Available models: B@sic & M@x
Spacier and still on the light side at 900 pounds. More space but still small. Still sleeps two, has an entertainment center and if upgraded to the Max package you can have a sink and stove in the read hatch. Getting better but not sold on it yet.
Available models: TAG B@sic, TAG Max, TAG XL Basic, TAG XL Max
The TAG and Five Wide are very similar. The TAG is heavier at nearly 1100 pounds and appears larger and nicer and also has the sink and stove in the rear hatch. It’s also setup for the optional refrigerator/freezer. It’s got wood cabinetry, LED lighting and more space. Outside on the trailer is a LP tank and a battery. It does have a spare tire under the frame. These things are really cool!
Available models: LOTS…CS, CS-S, Q, S, U with packages Sofitel, Outback, Tabitha
Lot’s of options but what we looked at was really amazing! Definitely more room to move and you can stand. As expected it’s heavier at nearly 1800 pounds. Still sleeps two and when not sleeping area is used as dinette, has a wet bath (shower/toilet combo), sink, stove, refrigerator, TV, DVD, Stereo, and LED lighting. Even has instant hot water. This one we like! So many features!
Want a small condo? This is it. We loved what it offered on the interior. Amazing amount of space, large bathroom, full kitchen, bedroom + two bunk beds and dinette turns into a 5th bed and tons of storage. Outside speakers, exterior storage for bikes and more, outside shower and did I say storage. Two propane tanks, AC, TV, DVD, power awning, and furnace. Seriously this is like having a small condo. Definitely the heaviest of all we looked at around 3000 pounds.
So that’s our first experience really looking at trailers and now that we are feeling a bit overwhelmed, it’s time to start doing some research.
We have two more we really want to see in person.
First, the Base Camp by Airstream. This is a very cool looking trailer. Love the wrap around windows and look of the interior.
Second, the Outback by TAB. This one appears to be more rugged with off-road wheels, cargo basket, and exterior platform.
Oh and we were told to check out the accessories. Pretty cool options. Look forward to doing this but will likely wait until we make a purchase first.
